Calaptin 40 mg Tablet contains Verapamil (40mg). It belongs to the Calcium Channel Blocker, Beta-blocker class of medicines.

Calaptin 40 Tablet is a calcium channel blocker. It blocks the action of calcium on the heart and blood vessels, thereby widening the blood vessels and allowing more blood and oxygen to reach the heart. This reduces blood pressure and decreases the chances of angina (chest pain).
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Calaptin 40 Tablet should be taken with or after food.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Calaptin 40 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Calaptin than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Calaptin are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Use with caution in patients with heart failure, asthma, or severe liver disease. Monitor blood pressure regularly.
May interact with other antihypertensives, NSAIDs, and certain antidepressants.
Store at room temperature (20-25°C), away from light and moisture.
It may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you. It may cause you to feel lightheaded or weak especially when you stand up (orthostatic hypotension). Rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. It is best to avoid drinking alcohol while taking Calaptin 40 Tablet as it may make the side effects worse. Do not stop taking it suddenly without talking to your doctor first. It may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you. Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you. It may make you feel lightheaded or weak especially when you stand up (orthostatic hypotension). Rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. Do not stop taking it suddenly without talking to your doctor first. It is best to avoid drinking alcohol while taking Calaptin 40 Tablet as it may make the side effects worse.
