How Catagon Eye Drops works

Catagon Eye Drop is a combination of three mineral salts. Altogether, Potassium Iodide, Sodium Chloride, and Calcium Chloride work to improve the eyesight. It is also believed to prevent lenticular opacity (cataract or opacity) and other eye diseases.

How to take Catagon Eye Drops

For ophthalmic use only. Instil the prescribed number of drops into the affected eye(s) as directed by an eye specialist. Wash hands before use; avoid touching the dropper tip; keep a 5–10 minute gap between different eye drops. Remove contact lenses before instillation and reinsert after at least 15 minutes unless advised otherwise.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Catagon Eye Drop, use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting and stomach pain, and with iron can be dangerous, especially in children. It can raise blood calcium dangerously, causing thirst, frequent urination, vomiting, confusion and kidney damage. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Catagon Eye Drops

Most side effects of Catagon are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• eye irritation
• redness
• watery eyes
• blurred vision
• itching

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only under ophthalmologist advice. Do not use if the solution changes color or becomes cloudy, or if seal is broken. Avoid contaminating the dropper tip. If severe eye pain, worsening redness, vision changes, swelling, rash, or no improvement occurs, seek medical care. Use caution in pregnancy/breastfeeding and in children unless prescribed. If using other eye medicines, separate by 5–10 minutes; ointments should be applied last.

Do not take Catagon if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with a high blood calcium level, or with certain kidney stones.

Interactions with other medicines

If using other ophthalmic medicines (antibiotic/steroid/anti-allergic/lubricant), maintain a 5–10 minute interval; specific drug interactions depend on the active ingredient (unknown).

How to store Catagon Eye Drops

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from light. Do not freeze. Keep bottle tightly closed. Discard within 4 weeks of opening or as per label.

Catagon Eye Drop is prescribed for the prevention of cataracts. Instill 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 3 or 4 hours, or as directed by a physician. Make sure to use it within 4 weeks of opening the bottle. In order to have healthy eyesight, eat a diet rich in green leafy vegetables, eggs, nuts, beans, fish, and citrus fruits. Too much UV exposure increases your chances of cataracts. Wearing the right pair of sunglasses will help protect your eyes from harsh sun rays. Have regular eye checkups at least once a year.
