Composition of Gli 2 Met Tablet

Gli 2 Met Tablet contains Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (usually sustained/extended release; exact release type not specified). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide class of medicines.

How Gli 2 Met Tablet works

How to take Gli 2 Met Tablet

Take by mouth as prescribed by the doctor, usually once or twice daily with meals to reduce stomach upset and risk of low sugar. Swallow tablet whole with water; do not crush/chew if it is a sustained/extended-release formulation. Monitor blood glucose regularly and follow diet/exercise advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Gli as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Gli than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Gli 2 Met Tablet

Most side effects of Gli are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• nausea
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• loss of appetite
• metallic taste
• headache
• dizziness
• weight gain (with glimepiride)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

May cause hypoglycaemia—higher risk with missed meals, excess exercise, alcohol, elderly, or with other antidiabetics; carry glucose/sugar source. Use caution in kidney or liver disease; metformin is not recommended in severe renal impairment due to risk of lactic acidosis. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures or major surgery as advised by doctor. Seek urgent care for symptoms of lactic acidosis (deep/rapid breathing, severe weakness, persistent vomiting, abdominal pain).

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases risk of hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis),iodinated contrast media (metformin),other antidiabetics/insulin (additive hypoglycaemia),beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms),corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (raise blood sugar),ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia risk),fluoroquinolones (blood sugar disturbances),cimetidine (may increase metformin levels)

How to store Gli 2 Met Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
