A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Volix R 0.3/1 mg Tablet. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.
All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.
Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.
Volix R 0.3/1 mg Tablet contains Repaglinide (1mg) + Voglibose (0.3mg). It belongs to the Alpha-glucosidase inhibitor + Meglitinide (insulin secretagogue) class of medicines.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (as add-on to diet and exercise) to control post-meal (postprandial) blood sugar; used when single therapy is insufficient.
Voglibose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that delays carbohydrate digestion and glucose absorption in the intestine, reducing post-meal glucose spikes. Repaglinide is a meglitinide that stimulates pancreatic insulin release by closing ATP-sensitive potassium channels in beta cells, mainly lowering postprandial glucose.
Oral tablet. Take as prescribed, typically just before meals (0–30 minutes before); if you skip a meal, skip the dose to reduce hypoglycaemia risk. Follow diet/exercise plan; monitor blood glucose regularly.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Volix R 0.3/1 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Volix R 0.3/1 mg than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Volix R 0.3/1 mg are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher if meals are delayed/skipped, with alcohol, or with other antidiabetics); carry glucose/sugar for low sugar episodes. Use with caution in liver impairment; monitor liver function if advised. Voglibose may cause significant gas/diarrhoea; avoid in inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction, or chronic intestinal disorders. Use caution in renal impairment, elderly, and malnourished patients. Not a substitute for insulin; seek medical advice during fever, infection, surgery, or trauma.
Gemfibrozil (contraindicated/avoid with repaglinide—marked hypoglycaemia risk), Clopidogrel (avoid/major interaction—raises repaglinide levels), Azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole/ketoconazole), Macrolides (e.g., clarithromycin), Rifampicin (may reduce effect), Cyclosporine, Beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia), Other antidiabetic medicines/insulin (additive hypoglycaemia), Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia risk)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
Volix R 0.3/1 Tablet is a combination medicine that can control blood sugar better than either medicine alone. Exercise, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medicines along with Volix R 0.3/1 Tablet. Take it around 15 minutes before a main meal. It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay a meal. Check your blood sugar regularly. Always carry some sugary food to manage hypoglycemia symptoms (cold sweats, pale skin, tremors, and anxiety).
