How Gemcal DS Tablet works

Gemcal-DS Tablet is a combination of Calcitriol, Calcium Carbonate, and Vitamin K2-7. Calcitriol is the active form of Vitamin D. It raises Vitamin D levels in your blood. This in turn raises calcium levels in your blood by helping you absorb more calcium from your intestine. Calcium carbonate is a dietary supplement used when the amount of calcium taken in the diet is not enough. Vitamin K2-7 plays a central role in the metabolism of calcium, the main mineral found in your bones and teeth. Vitamin K2-7 activates the calcium-binding actions of two proteins : matrix GLA protein and osteocalcin, which help to build and maintain bone health.

How to take Gemcal DS Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Gemcal-DS Tablet may be taken with or without food.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Gemcal-DS Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Gemcal DS than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Most side effects of Gemcal DS are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Gemcal-DS Tablet is used in the treatment of calcium deficiency. Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, or if you have ever had kidney stones. Let your doctor know if you are taking any other medications like for bone disorders, antihypertensives, antibiotics, antacids, other calcium supplements, or medicines for heart disease. Inform your doctor if you are taking an iron supplement, as the absorption rate might be affected. Include calcium-rich food in your diet like milk, cheese, yogurt, calcium-fortified soya milk, and green leafy vegetables like spinach.
