Use with caution in kidney disease, liver disease, elderly patients, dehydration, and conditions predisposing to hypoxia; metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis (seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or drowsiness). Voglibose may cause gastrointestinal side effects and should be used cautiously in patients with intestinal disorders (e.g., obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease). Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c; monitor renal function periodically. Risk of hypoglycaemia increases if used with insulin or sulfonylureas; carry glucose source and treat lows as advised.
