Composition of Telma Am Tablet

Telma Am Tablet contains Telmisartan (40mg) + Amlodipine (5mg). It belongs to the Angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) + Calcium channel blocker (DHP-CCB) class of medicines.

How Telma Am Tablet works

Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels by blocking angiotensin II, lowering blood pressure. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that widens arteries by reducing calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle. Together they provide additive BP lowering and 24-hour control.

How to take Telma Am Tablet

Take orally once daily or as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; swallow whole with water. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice; monitor BP regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Telma-AM Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a severe fall in blood pressure, with dizziness, fainting and a fast or slow pulse. It can cause a severe fall in blood pressure and a dangerously slow or irregular heartbeat. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Telma Am Tablet

Most side effects of Telma Am are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Dizziness

• ankle/foot swelling (edema)
• flushing
• palpitations
• fatigue
• nausea

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Not recommended in pregnancy; stop and consult doctor if pregnancy occurs. Use with caution in kidney disease, liver impairment, heart failure, severe aortic stenosis, dehydration/low blood pressure, and elderly. May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Monitor kidney function and potassium; risk of high potassium especially with kidney disease or potassium-raising medicines.

Do not take Telma Am if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Must not be used in pregnancy — it can seriously harm the developing baby. Not for people with narrowing of both kidney arteries, or a history of swelling of the face and throat caused by this group of medicines. Not for people with very low blood pressure or with severe narrowing of the aortic valve.

Interactions with other medicines

Potassium supplements/salt substitutes, potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone/eplerenone/amiloride), other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), NSAIDs (may reduce effect and worsen kidney function), lithium (increased toxicity risk), ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (higher risk of kidney problems/hyperkalemia; avoid in diabetes with aliskiren), strong CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers affecting amlodipine (e.g., clarithromycin, azoles, rifampicin), grapefruit juice (may increase amlodipine levels)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place; protect from moisture and direct sunlight; keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Telma-AM Tablet is a combination of two medicines that provides better blood pressure control than either medicine alone. Telma-AM Tablet may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you. It may cause you to feel lightheaded or weak especially when you stand up. Rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. Avoid consuming alcohol as it may enhance the blood pressure lowering effect of this medicine. It can cause ankle or foot swelling. Raise your legs while you are sitting down and talk to your doctor if it does not go away. Do not take Telma-AM Tablet if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
