Telma 20 Tablet contains Telmisartan (20mg). It belongs to the Angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) class of medicines.

How Telma 20 Tablet works

Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks AT1 receptors, causing blood vessels to relax and widen, which lowers blood pressure and reduces strain on the heart.

How to take Telma 20 Tablet

Take by mouth as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food. Swallow tablet with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Telma 20 Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a severe fall in blood pressure, with dizziness, fainting and a fast or slow pulse. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Telma 20 Tablet

Most side effects of Telma are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• low blood pressure
• nausea
• back pain
• increased potassium (hyperkalemia)
• raised creatinine

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Not recommended in pregnancy (especially 2nd/3rd trimester) due to risk of fetal harm; avoid if history of hypersensitivity to telmisartan. Use with caution in kidney impairment, renal artery stenosis, dehydration/volume depletion, severe liver disease, and in patients prone to hyperkalemia. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium. Seek help for severe dizziness/fainting or signs of high potassium (muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat).

Do not take Telma if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Must not be used in pregnancy — it can seriously harm the developing baby. Not for people with narrowing of both kidney arteries, or a history of swelling of the face and throat caused by this group of medicines.

Interactions with other medicines

Potassium supplements/potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, amiloride), ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (increased risk of kidney injury/hyperkalemia; avoid in diabetes with aliskiren), NSAIDs (may reduce effect and worsen kidney function), lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity), diuretics (additive BP lowering), digoxin (telmisartan may increase levels)

Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
